Bord Bia
We have a critical responsibility in ensuring that members of the programme continue to meet expectations and that information is accurate and credible.
Mabbett are the external verification provider for Bord Bia’s Origin Green programme, Ireland’s pioneering food and drink sustainability programme, operating on a national scale, uniting government, the private sector and the full supply chain from farmers to food producers and right through to the foodservice and retail sectors. The programme is the worlds’ only national food and drink sustainability programme of its kind that enables the industry to set and achieve measurable sustainability targets that respect the environment and serve local communities more effectively.
Origin Green members are required to prepare and submit a sustainability plan for external verification and scoring on an annual basis. The sustainability plan aims to include ambitious targets across raw materials and supply chain, environmental sustainability (energy, water, waste, biodiversity) and social sustainability (community engagement, employee wellbeing among others). Members are required to submit their plan annually along with evidence to show progress against targets.

Our sustainability consultants work in partnership with the Origin Green programme management team providing feedback and innovative suggestions on programme improvements. This has been recognised and welcomed by Bord Bia.
Provision of recommendations to assist member companies improve their sustainable outcomes. In 2024, 110 companies achieved Gold Membership status.
Development of various target guidance documents to include packaging, biodiversity, water, food waste and social sustainability topic guidance to support setting of SMART targets.
