£500,000 identified savings for oil and gas supply chain companies through better environmental management.

Approach and Delivery

Mabbett were retained by Zero Waste Scotland (formerly Envirowise) to deliver the North East Oil and Gas Supply Chain Project to assist service providers and contractors to the Tier 1 Companies in the oil and gas industry to identify opportunities for improved resource management and efficiency and improve overall environmental performance. The project was delivered through on-site individual audits and group workshops to allow the participant companies to share best practice and benchmark their activities with others in the industry.

Mabbett Resource Efficiency Specialists conducted an environmental audit to assist each participant company to identify, and prioritise action areas in materials, waste and energy aspects as well as providing implementation support to include a comprehensive environmental improvement action plan, with follow-up assistance to help realise identified savings.

Project Outcomes

The project identified the following potential cost savings and environmental benefits for the nineteen companies involved:

  • £584,800 of potential cost savings through increased resource and waste minimisation.
  • 395 tonnes of waste diverted from landfill.
  • reduced paper consumption by 47 tonnes.
  • reduced water consumption by 8,847 m3.
  • over 3,209 tonnes of CO2 saved through greater energy efficiency.
